European Alliance of Initiatives for Applied Anthroposophy

The Biodynamic Agricultural Association, as a signatory to the Earth Charter, is part of a worldwide network of civil society organisations seeking to uphold the dignity and integrity of human beings and of all life on earth. Grass roots initiatives of many kinds are bringing about change and offering hope for the future in the face of increasing environmental degradation and the appalling exploitation of defenceless people.  The many initiatives inspired by Rudolf Steiner are part of this change and contribute to the defence of human dignity and individual development in a very significant way.  In Europe and indeed throughout the Western world, individual freedom of choice is being increasingly curtailed and threatening important aspects of our work.

Demeter Baby Foods Banned

No Demeter products contain artificial additives and yet addition of artificial vitamins to baby foods is now a requirement under the EU Vitamin Regulation!

The continued availability of Anthroposophic and homeopathic medicines is threatened. They can only survive legally if current medicines legislation is amended.

Alliance Founded

To meet these and other challenges the European Alliance of Initiatives for Applied Anthroposophy (ELIANT) has been founded. The intention is to share facilities in the centre of Brussels and provide a common information resource close to the heart of European governance. In this way it is hoped to bring influence to bear on policy makers. The core members of ELIANT are associations and institutions of applied anthroposophy that are active at a European level.

Petition

The Alliance has agreed a charter of aims. Its next task is to demonstrate that it has a significant level of support amongst the European population. One million supporters is considered significant. Already over 60,000 people have signed up but there is a long way to go. Non-EU citizens can also sign. A petition form can be printed off. You can also sign up online.

ELIANT needs at least a million signatures by 15th July deadline.

Please try and gather as many signatures as possible and return the sheets to the address provided

Charter of Aims

Human dignity and the right to individual self determination are core European values. For more than eighty years a significant contribution has been made by range of initiatives inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner and especially in the fields of agriculture, education, special needs education and medicine. Its high quality and inner integrity has earned respect throughout the world. The Alliance wants to ensure that future citizens of Europe can continue enjoying the benefits.

Citizens of Europe require not only freedom of choice but also the availability of those choices. Parents must be able to choose schools for their children that accord with their educational convictions and everyone must be able to access the medical care they believe in and source the kind of food they wish to eat. In Europe it is essential that these basic human rights are not narrowed down to the detriment of such key cultural elements. The Alliance will work to uphold these values.

A basic policy framework is required to ensure that the diversity of individual lifestyle choices and their various institutions and initiatives are supported and safeguarded. A pluralism of scientific methods and the freedom to carry out independent research must be guaranteed. It is equally vital that the free vocational choice and independent training possibilities are safeguarded.
