Demeter Certification

The Biodynamic Agricultural Association (BDAA) owns and administers the Demeter Certified Trademark in the UK and is linked with a world-wide network of independent certifying organisations under the umbrella of Demeter International. Demeter Certification is fully recognised by DEFRA as an organic certification body. Demeter Certification requires full compliance to organic standards. In addition Demeter UK is recognised by Demeter International as an approved Demeter Certification Body.

BDAA Organic Certification

The BDAA also offers Organic Certification to producers, processors, abattoirs, distributors and importers. This complies with the EU Organic Standards (EC 834/2007)

Accreditation

Since the 24th December 2008, both the Demeter and the BDAA Organic Certification schemes have full EN45011 accreditation with UKAS.

 

 

Demeter certified food comes from biodynamic farming, which is:

  • Biodynamic - With special Preparations which help improve soil tilth and increase fertility.
  • Well established - Representing the oldest and most established ecological farming approach.
  • Holistic - Taking into account not only the soil, plants and animals but also the influence of the stars.
  • International - With over 3000 Demeter producers in nearly 40 countries.

  • Fairly traded - Paying the growers a fair price in whichever country they live.
  • Best Quality - The Processing Standards are specially designed to pre serve or enhance the high quality.
