Farm Manager for new Farms of SEKEM, biodynamic cultivation

Work Place: SEKEM Sinai Farm, North-Western part of Sinai, Egypt
Or: SEKEM Minia Farm, outside Minia city, Upper Egypt
Or: SEKEM Farm Wahat el Bahareya, in Bahareya Oasis, Western Desert, Egypt

Time Period: minimum 12 months, starting as soon as possible
Job Description:
Support the current farm manager in all aspects of running the new farm:
Production of various crops (different on the three farms, according to cultivation plan set
by management, depending on climate and suitability of the farm)
Your position on the farms will depend on your experience and favours for growing herbs
(Minia and Wahat) or field crops, vegetables and fruit (Sinai)
Management of farm workers, responsible for daily routines
Dealing with all challenges in a desert farm (energy and water supply, housing and food
supply)
Ensuring best practice of post harvest handling of the crops
Soil management with the aim to enhance soil fertility
Ensure SEKEM principles of sustainable and holistic development on the new farm
Act as a “community builder” for the team on the farm
An introduction to the SEKEM Initiative and its principles, the role of the new farms within
this organism and to the new cultural surrounding will take place on SEKEM Farm, duration
will be agreed.
What you should bring:
-Motivation to work in a pioneer project
-Knowledge and experiences in organic cultivation (preferably Demeter, (either with
cultivation of herbs or fruit & vegetables)
-ability to work in a multicultural team, to inspire other and act as a leader
-flexibility to adapt to changed conditions and sudden challenges
-Interest in working in a different culture and in the setting of a development project
-German and English language (spoken and written) , interest to learn Arabic language
-strong health to cope with hot climate
-enjoy pioneer situation with less comfort of living
