20th April 2022

Heckfield Estates is looking for a Flower Grower/Gardener to join its growing team and support our group with seasonal flora.

We are looking for someone with some experience of growing flowers / floristry professionally. Someone with a genuine passion for flowers and their beauty and is dedicated to ensuring the flowers are the best they can be.

Here you would be part of a team of growers working together to supply Heckfield Place rooms with beautiful and adventurous home grown flora all year round, as well as other companies and outlets within our Group. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone to be involved in a progressive and creative farm to table project.

Some of the duties you will be involved in will include:

  • Maintenance and monitoring of cut flower crops
  • Managing pest & disease
  • Planting and aftercare of flower crops
  • Ground preparation
  • Propagation from seed, cuttings or division
  • On occasion if requested, floristry support for the hotel
  • Operating machinery (where required & if trained/certified to do so)

The certified organic and biodynamic market garden is set over 5 acres, with a large state-of-the-art propagating glasshouse and five polytunnels supporting the flowers, vegetable and soft fruit growing. The estate grows an acre of cut flowers for the 45 bedrooms and rooms at Heckfield Place, located on the estate.. Kitten Grayson of Kitten Grayson Flowers looks after the floral aesthetics for the hotel and she has input into what we will grow on the estate for this purpose.

The market garden also that supplies the hotels two restaurants with beautiful, truly seasonal and delicious produce. There is a young orchard, with more than 500 apple, pear and stoned fruit trees, which is presently home to our bees and organic chickens.

The market garden is set within the original 340-acre Home Farm, a mixed arable and livestock farm (certified organic, and following biodynamic principles). Suffolk sheep, saddleback pigs graze the land and flocks of chickens supply eggs for the kitchen, a herd of Guernsey cows arrived in late 2019 along with a purpose built dairy to produce our own unpasteurised milk, butter, cream, yogurt and, eventually, cheese.

We are trying to create something very special in these lovely grounds and we would be pleased to hear from you.

Only applicants with the Right to Work in the UK should apply.

We are an equal opportunities employer and we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons.
