SUMMARY:Subtle Energies of The Land - Level 1: Restoring Balance\, 30th Sept – 3rd Oct 2024 With Patrick MacManaway & Bríd Walsh
DESCRIPTION:Venue:  Rill Estate\, Devon\nHosted by Rachel Fleming\nFull details https://animate-earth.org/events/subtle-energies-of-the-land/\nTo book https://animate-earth.org/subtle-energies-of-the-land/ \nAbout the workshop\n\nIn an animate world\, subtle energies and intelligence surround us\, natural energy fields that affect the health and behaviour of soils\, plants\, animals\, people\, the water and the land itself. Working with these forces\, flows and cycles of nature would have come more easily\, perhaps\, to our forebears\, who were reliant on maintaining a balanced and harmonious relationship with the land for their survival\, but they can be recovered. \nThis is a training for those who work with the land in any capacity\, for those who would like to explore and begin to use the art\, the science of working with the land in this subtle capacity. There is much evidence to show that working in this way\, with the land\, with crops\, animals\, water-courses\, trees and the communities\, human and otherwise that live upon it\, leads to greater balance\, harmony and productivity for all. \nThe objectives of our time together are to: \n\nunderstand subtle energy principles\nunderstand how to use intuition\, kinesiology and simple telepathy to access information and guidance\nunderstand the power of connection with the intelligence of nature at work in your landscape\nparticipate with and co-creatively influence the fundamental processes of nature\nunderstand the power of intent and attitude in influencing the success of our relationships and our work with the land\nunderstand the impact of energy imbalances\, and learn techniques to correct these and restore health\n\nAfter this introduction our intention is that you return home empowered to participate and co-creatively influence core life processes impacting soils\, plant growth\, animal health\, human community and economics for the land that you steward or live within; that you experience a deep sense of ease and belonging in your landscape and that you understand the power of being energetically in balance and be empowered to seek this state for yourself\, your land and your communities.

There will also be discussions of the implications of raw\nmilk cheesemaking for human health\, and the complicated ethics of animal  agriculture \nDay One\nLearn how to create and care for the cultures of your cheese. We begin with a session on dairy\nfermentation\, covering clabber\, kefir\, amasi (an African milk beer) and a traditional cream-top yogurt. \nDay Two\nWe’ll use the cultures and rennet to make fresh lactic cheeses such as cream cheese\, chevre and faisselle as well as Geotrichum candidum ripened French lactic goat cheeses including crottin\,\nValençay and Saint-Marcellin. \nDay Three\nWe look at rennet cheeses\, preparing\, in the morning\, the basic curd that can become many different styles of cheese. By the afternoon\, the curd’s acidity will have developed and we’ll be able to stretch the cheese into Mozzarella\, Queso Oaxaca and Burrata. We also explore the rind ecologies that can transform the fresh cheese into a ripe Camembert \nDay Four\nWe will make Bleu d’Auvergne\, a French blue cheese\, and explore the cultivation of blue fungus that\ngives this cheese its beautiful blue eyes. We will also prepare rennet in the traditional way \nAngus D. Birditt\, of Our Isles and author of A Portrait of British Cheese\, will give a talk on ‘Blue Cheeses of the British & Irish Isles’ on Saturday after class.\nAngus is a food writer and photographer and is passionate about cheese making in Britain and keeping alive this important part of our culinary and agricultural heritage. \nDay Five\nOn our final day\, we make an Alpine cheese\, and see how this one cheesemaking method can evolve in many different directions\, including Tomme and Raclette. We explore the concepts of rind washing and how it influences the hard cheese’s evolution. With the leftover whey\, we prepare a batch of traditional ricotta

It is time to engage in dialogue and relearn a living world wisdom from the elemental kingdom.”\n* Nature Spirits: The Remembrance \nAt this gathering we will be exploring the methods used for seership and communication described by the philosopher\, scientist and seer\, Rudolf Steiner. We will be focusing on ways in which we can build a mutually rewarding line of communication with the nature spirits\, in order that we may receive information and\ninsight into their world. By working together with the elementals – which reside in earth\, water\, air and fire – we can become responsible co-creators at this critical time in our evolution. In this workshop Susan will be describing the activities of the nature spirits in the landscape\, in plants and in the human being. We will be looking at ways in which we can effectively help these generous inhabitants of the supersensible realm for the ultimate benefit of us all. \nDuring the weekend we will be exploring:\n1. Rudolf Steiner’s ‘Six Essential Exercises’ for awakening supersensible perception\, with special emphasis on control\nof thinking and control of feeling. (It is more important to be in a state of Grace than to be ‘right’ if you wish to enter\nthe realm of the nature spirits!)\n2. The significance of colour on the inner and outer screen.\n3. The language of sense\, sound and movement.\n4. Protocols for greeting and questioning the nature spirits.\n5. Ways in which the human being can help the elementals return to their right and proper sphere. \nAbout Susan Raven\nSusan Raven is an experienced workshop facilitator and a long time student of Anthroposophy. She has worked with the methods and exercises described by Rudolf Steiner for seeing into the supersensible realms\, and has also trained with Dorian Schmidt\, director of the Biodynamic Research Institute. \nSusan is the author of the popular book ‘Nature Spirits: The Remembrance: A guide to the Elemental\nKingdom’\, featured in the Cygnus magazine\, Nexus\, Star & Furrow and Caduceus. \nReviews:\n• “You created a beautiful ‘space’ in which to explore\, test and trust insights. In so short a time I feel my understandings came together meaningfully\, most unexpectedly\, as if a window to Truth was just waiting to be opened. Thank you for having been the one to open the window!” \n• “Thank you so much for a truly inspiring and uplifting weekend. It was so moving and rewarding working in that way and finding how many wonderful observations and messages came through. I will use those methods regularly from now on to connect with nature.” \n• “Your workshop had real substance!”

SUMMARY:Northern Region 100 Years of Biodynamics Events: 11th May\, 13th June\, 25th July & 5th Oct 2024
DESCRIPTION:This year marks 100 Years since the birth of Biodynamics – the Agriculture Course was given by Steiner during the Whitsun time in 1924. We would like to celebrate this event together with everyone interested from our region or further afield. \nThis will consist of four events: we will start together as a group in Botton\, North Yorkshire in May\,  followed  biodynamic preparation spraying events in June and July and finish with with another group gathering at\nClervaux\, Darlington  where we will be sharing the Harmonizing Preparation for everyone to take\nhome. \nThe celebration has a threefold aspect to it as we could imagine the first day as having an emphasis on celebrating the past\, the sprayings on celebrating the present and the last day as looking into and celebrating the future. \nProposed Programme of Events\n\n1. Saturday 11th May 2024\nVenue: Botton Village\,  Danby\, Whitby\, N Yorks \n10am – Welcome and coffee\n10.30am – Introduction and song / Celebrating and remembering all the Biodynamic Work that has happened in Botton / Sharing of the work and experiences of organic and biodynamic work in the area as well as our personal relationship/connection with Botton\n12.30am – Lunch with soup and rolls\n1.30pm – Celebrating stirring and spraying of 500 – future intentions for the different places\n4.00pm – Closing thoughts and looking ahead\n4.30pm – Coffee / tea and depart \nFrom this event we have 2 moments of spraying (500\, 501) in our own areas\, when we would aim to spray at the same time\, holding each other in mind while doing it\,  namely \n2. Thursday 13th June 2024  at 3pm  – sprying of the Horn Manure Preparation \n3. Thurday 25th July 2024 at 6am  – spraying the Horn Silica Preparation \n4) Saturday 5th October  tbc\nVenue: Clearvaux\, Darlington tbc\n10am – Coffee and garden/farm walk for those who don’t know Clervaux. Everyone is welcome.\n12.30pm – Bring and share harvest meal.\n2pm – Eurythmy (TBC)\n2.45pm – Open forum:\nBrief introduction to Hugo Erbe (1885-1965) and the Harmonizing Preparation.\nSharing of our experiences while spraying.\nLooking into the future: What is our task into keeping Biodynamics vibrant and alive in our region? Is there a need for more collective work/study/celebrations of Biodynamics?\n4pm – coffee and good byes. We will be giving the Harmonizing Preparation to everyone to take home. This preparation is sprayed around Michaelmas time as an expression of gratitude to the elemental beings. \nWe are hoping that many will be able to join this celebration from all over the region.\nWe very much hope that we can\, in the spirit of reflecting and celebration\, give thanks to all those who have done so much for Biodynamics as well as to give all of us inspiration to continue to take Biodynamics into the future. \nMany thanks and greetings from the organising group\nRuairidh von Stein\, Vivian Griffiths\, Hans Steenbergen and Gilberto Domingues\nFFI and to book a place on one or all of the events contact Ruairidh von Stein email  rvsdtp15r@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Bring Your Garden to Life with Biodynamic Compost Workshop 11th May 2024\, Sheffield
DESCRIPTION:Location: Moss Valley Market Garden\, Sheffield Organic Growers\, Norton\, Sheffield   \nDate  May 11th\, Time 10am – 4pm\nCost £30  Drinks and light lunch of vegan soup and bread provided.\nBooking Contact Martin Bradshaw to book. Email; mossvalleymarketgarden@ooooby.com\nPlaces limited so book early to avoid disappointment. \nDiscover  the true nature of the herbal preparations used in biodynamic gardening and farming and their benefits to the compost heap\, soil and plants. \n“We tend to look at the beings of nature – the  minerals\, plants\, and animals (…) – as if they stood there in isolation. We’re in the habit of looking at a plant all by itself; then we go on to look at a plant species all by itself\, and then at another species next to it. Everything we’re supposed to know about these things is neatly pigeonholed into separate species and genera. But that is not how things are in nature. In\nnature\, and actually throughout the universe\, everything is in mutual interaction with everything else.”\nRudolf Steiner (initiator of biodynamics) 1924 \nAbout the workshop\nThe biodynamic compost preparations are uniquely fermented natural remedies that will increase soil microbial populations\, vitalise plant growth and harmonise life processes. \nIn this workshop you will be taken on a journey of discovery revealing the true nature of the herbal preparations and their benefits to the compost heap\, soil and plants. By using the methods of Goethean science we will study these herbs in a living way and then be able to apply the preparations to a ready-made compost heap. \nThis workshop is led by Michael Bate and Martin Bradshaw.\nMichael is a former head grower at Weleda herb garden\, Ilkeston and has 30 years\nexperience of leading workshops.   Martin is manager and head grower at Moss Valley Market Garden. \n  \n

SUMMARY:An Introduction to Gardening the Biodynamic Way: 18 February 2024 2pm-5pm\, London
DESCRIPTION:Venue: Rudolf Steiner House\,  35 Park Rd\, London NW1 6XT  https://rsh.anth.org.uk/\nWith Sue Peat and Douglas Davidson \nBiodynamics is an organic method of cultivation\, arising out of Rudolf Steiner’s Spiritual research. It works with the rhythms of the movements of the Sun\, Moon\, planets and stars to which the plants respond. The workshop will cover the background to the biodynamic planting calendar and using the biodynamic preparations. It’s spring and so we will focus on sharing tips for sowing and growing food plants – from windowsill herbs to fruit trees. For the last hour\, we’ll stir the horn manure preparation (known as 500)\, so bring an empty screw top bottle if you would like to take some home. A 500ml bottle is enough for an average garden. The workshop is suitable for those new to biodynamics and for anyone who would like to give their garden\, window boxes or house plants a spring treat! \nSue and Douglas are enthusiastic gardeners with lots of practical experience of biodynamic gardening. \nAll welcome\, no need to book. £10/ £5 \n
