The price of the five-day workshop is £675 which includes lunches\,  teas & coffees\, with pizza on the Friday evening  Please email to book your place and pay by BACS: Abbey Farm Partnership Triodos Bank | 16-58-10 | 21153868\nContact Details :  To to book your place or for more  information  hello@the-rare.co.uk | 07794440075 | @theraredairy \nAbout the workshop: \nThe workshop explores five main categories of cheese\, and concepts of traditional starters\, ripening ecologies\, and natural rennet\, offering a new understanding of cheesemaking even to those with many years of experience – including lifelong commercial producers. \nStudents can expect to learn how simple  traditional methods can lead to a safe\, effective\, and delicious raw (or pasteurised) milk cheesemaking; and how the philosophies of fermentation of natural wine\, beer\, sourdough and dairy are all inter-related. There will also be discussions of the implications of raw\nmilk cheesemaking for human health\, and the complicated ethics of animal  agriculture \nDay One\nLearn how to create and care for the cultures of your cheese. We begin with a session on dairy\nfermentation\, covering clabber\, kefir\, amasi (an African milk beer) and a traditional cream-top yogurt. \nDay Two\nWe’ll use the cultures and rennet to make fresh lactic cheeses such as cream cheese\, chevre and faisselle as well as Geotrichum candidum ripened French lactic goat cheeses including crottin\,\nValençay and Saint-Marcellin. \nDay Three\nWe look at rennet cheeses\, preparing\, in the morning\, the basic curd that can become many different styles of cheese. By the afternoon\, the curd’s acidity will have developed and we’ll be able to stretch the cheese into Mozzarella\, Queso Oaxaca and Burrata. We also explore the rind ecologies that can transform the fresh cheese into a ripe Camembert \nDay Four\nWe will make Bleu d’Auvergne\, a French blue cheese\, and explore the cultivation of blue fungus that\ngives this cheese its beautiful blue eyes. We will also prepare rennet in the traditional way \nAngus D. Birditt\, of Our Isles and author of A Portrait of British Cheese\, will give a talk on ‘Blue Cheeses of the British & Irish Isles’ on Saturday after class.\nAngus is a food writer and photographer and is passionate about cheese making in Britain and keeping alive this important part of our culinary and agricultural heritage. \nDay Five\nOn our final day\, we make an Alpine cheese\, and see how this one cheesemaking method can evolve in many different directions\, including Tomme and Raclette. We explore the concepts of rind washing and how it influences the hard cheese’s evolution. With the leftover whey\, we prepare a batch of traditional ricotta

It is time to engage in dialogue and relearn a living world wisdom from the elemental kingdom.”\n* Nature Spirits: The Remembrance \nAt this gathering we will be exploring the methods used for seership and communication described by the philosopher\, scientist and seer\, Rudolf Steiner. We will be focusing on ways in which we can build a mutually rewarding line of communication with the nature spirits\, in order that we may receive information and\ninsight into their world. By working together with the elementals – which reside in earth\, water\, air and fire – we can become responsible co-creators at this critical time in our evolution. In this workshop Susan will be describing the activities of the nature spirits in the landscape\, in plants and in the human being. We will be looking at ways in which we can effectively help these generous inhabitants of the supersensible realm for the ultimate benefit of us all. \nDuring the weekend we will be exploring:\n1. Rudolf Steiner’s ‘Six Essential Exercises’ for awakening supersensible perception\, with special emphasis on control\nof thinking and control of feeling. (It is more important to be in a state of Grace than to be ‘right’ if you wish to enter\nthe realm of the nature spirits!)\n2. The significance of colour on the inner and outer screen.\n3. The language of sense\, sound and movement.\n4. Protocols for greeting and questioning the nature spirits.\n5. Ways in which the human being can help the elementals return to their right and proper sphere. \nAbout Susan Raven\nSusan Raven is an experienced workshop facilitator and a long time student of Anthroposophy. She has worked with the methods and exercises described by Rudolf Steiner for seeing into the supersensible realms\, and has also trained with Dorian Schmidt\, director of the Biodynamic Research Institute. \nSusan is the author of the popular book ‘Nature Spirits: The Remembrance: A guide to the Elemental\nKingdom’\, featured in the Cygnus magazine\, Nexus\, Star & Furrow and Caduceus. \nReviews:\n• “You created a beautiful ‘space’ in which to explore\, test and trust insights. In so short a time I feel my understandings came together meaningfully\, most unexpectedly\, as if a window to Truth was just waiting to be opened. Thank you for having been the one to open the window!” \n• “Thank you so much for a truly inspiring and uplifting weekend. It was so moving and rewarding working in that way and finding how many wonderful observations and messages came through. I will use those methods regularly from now on to connect with nature.” \n• “Your workshop had real substance!”

SUMMARY:Northern Region 100 Years of Biodynamics Events: 11th May\, 13th June\, 25th July & 5th Oct 2024
DESCRIPTION:This year marks 100 Years since the birth of Biodynamics – the Agriculture Course was given by Steiner during the Whitsun time in 1924. We would like to celebrate this event together with everyone interested from our region or further afield. \nThis will consist of four events: we will start together as a group in Botton\, North Yorkshire in May\,  followed  biodynamic preparation spraying events in June and July and finish with with another group gathering at\nClervaux\, Darlington  where we will be sharing the Harmonizing Preparation for everyone to take\nhome. \nThe celebration has a threefold aspect to it as we could imagine the first day as having an emphasis on celebrating the past\, the sprayings on celebrating the present and the last day as looking into and celebrating the future. \nProposed Programme of Events\n\n1. Saturday 11th May 2024\nVenue: Botton Village\,  Danby\, Whitby\, N Yorks \n10am – Welcome and coffee\n10.30am – Introduction and song / Celebrating and remembering all the Biodynamic Work that has happened in Botton / Sharing of the work and experiences of organic and biodynamic work in the area as well as our personal relationship/connection with Botton\n12.30am – Lunch with soup and rolls\n1.30pm – Celebrating stirring and spraying of 500 – future intentions for the different places\n4.00pm – Closing thoughts and looking ahead\n4.30pm – Coffee / tea and depart \nFrom this event we have 2 moments of spraying (500\, 501) in our own areas\, when we would aim to spray at the same time\, holding each other in mind while doing it\,  namely \n2. SUMMARY:Bring Your Garden to Life with Biodynamic Compost Workshop 11th May 2024\, Sheffield
DESCRIPTION:Location: Moss Valley Market Garden\, Sheffield Organic Growers\, Norton\, Sheffield   \nDate  May 11th\, Time 10am – 4pm\nCost £30  Drinks and light lunch of vegan soup and bread provided.\nBooking Contact Martin Bradshaw to book. Email; mossvalleymarketgarden@ooooby.com\nPlaces limited so book early to avoid disappointment. \nDiscover  the true nature of the herbal preparations used in biodynamic gardening and farming and their benefits to the compost heap\, soil and plants. \n“We tend to look at the beings of nature – the  minerals\, plants\, and animals (…) – as if they stood there in isolation. We’re in the habit of looking at a plant all by itself; then we go on to look at a plant species all by itself\, and then at another species next to it. Everything we’re supposed to know about these things is neatly pigeonholed into separate species and genera. But that is not how things are in nature. In\nnature\, and actually throughout the universe\, everything is in mutual interaction with everything else.”\nRudolf Steiner (initiator of biodynamics) 1924 \nAbout the workshop\nThe biodynamic compost preparations are uniquely fermented natural remedies that will increase soil microbial populations\, vitalise plant growth and harmonise life processes. \nIn this workshop you will be taken on a journey of discovery revealing the true nature of the herbal preparations and their benefits to the compost heap\, soil and plants. By using the methods of Goethean science we will study these herbs in a living way and then be able to apply the preparations to a ready-made compost heap. \nThis workshop is led by Michael Bate and Martin Bradshaw.\nMichael is a former head grower at Weleda herb garden\, Ilkeston and has 30 years\nexperience of leading workshops.   Martin is manager and head grower at Moss Valley Market Garden. \n  \n

SUMMARY:An Introduction to Gardening the Biodynamic Way: 18 February 2024 2pm-5pm\, London
DESCRIPTION:Venue: Rudolf Steiner House\,  35 Park Rd\, London NW1 6XT  https://rsh.anth.org.uk/\nWith Sue Peat and Douglas Davidson \nBiodynamics is an organic method of cultivation\, arising out of Rudolf Steiner’s Spiritual research. It works with the rhythms of the movements of the Sun\, Moon\, planets and stars to which the plants respond. The workshop will cover the background to the biodynamic planting calendar and using the biodynamic preparations. It’s spring and so we will focus on sharing tips for sowing and growing food plants – from windowsill herbs to fruit trees. For the last hour\, we’ll stir the horn manure preparation (known as 500)\, so bring an empty screw top bottle if you would like to take some home. A 500ml bottle is enough for an average garden. The workshop is suitable for those new to biodynamics and for anyone who would like to give their garden\, window boxes or house plants a spring treat! \nSue and Douglas are enthusiastic gardeners with lots of practical experience of biodynamic gardening. \nAll welcome\, no need to book. £10/ £5 \n

SUMMARY:Biodynamic Agriculture & Anthroposophy Free online course 27th November to 18th Dec 2023
DESCRIPTION:This course is being offered by the Agricultural Section at the Goethenum as a gift as part of the 100th Anniversary Celebrations of Biodynamics 1924-2024 \nEnroll here \nThrough deepening into anthroposophy\, biodynamic agriculture can be experienced in a truly fruitful way. Anthroposophy develops an image of the human being\, whereby the human being – completely connected with the soil\, plants\, animals and the climate – is able to penetrate nature in such a way that a personal relationship with the spiritual world of beings\, which appears in it\, can develop. \nOut of this spiritual relationship\, you can work practically\, for example with the biodynamic preparations\, you can shape the farm into a living organism and align your commitment with the big picture of the earth as a living being. \nWhere does the human ability to cultivate nature come from? How far are we as human beings actually allowed to cultivate nature agriculturally? These are some of the questions we will look at in this course. \nFind here a report from a participant of the first course in November 2021 \n\n\n\n\nCourse leaders\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUeli Hurter   Co-Leader of the section of Agriculture\, since 2010. Board-member of the General Anthroposophical Society\, since 2020.\nIn the Supervisory Board of the Biodynamic Federation Demeter International\, since 2020. For 30 years biodynamic farmer in Switzerland on ‘Ferme de L’Aubier’ an Co-entrepreneur in the associative initiative L’Aubier\, until end of 2020.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJean-Michel Florin  Studied agriculture and nature conservation\, coordinator of the biodynamic association in France (MABD) and trainer for bd farming\, author and editor of books and journals\, expert and speaker on the subjects: Goethean approach of nature\, medicinal plants\, landscape\, viticulture\, etc. Since 2010 Head of the Section for Agriculture. In the Supervisory Board of the Biodynamic Federation Demeter International\, since 2020.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe course lasts four weeks\, 7 live sessions 2h with a maximum weekly workload of 6h. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPractical exercises as well as self-study and peer group learning accompany and connect the regular live sessions during the four weeks of the course. \n\n\n\n\nParticipation terms\nThe in-depth modules are designed to support people who want to work in the field of biodynamic agriculture at the level of farm management\, communication\, advisory services\, training\, coordination or research. They are mainly addressed to people who already have previous knowledge and are connected to the biodynamic movement. A basic interest in the anthroposophical background\, as well as the will to explore the subject in depth\, should be present. \n

We would like to explore the idea of “interfluence” through this conference\, meaning this word to represent “mutual influence” and “multidirectional interplay”. \n“Interfluence” doesn’t simply replace “mechanism” but rather invites qualitatively different\, more appropriately fluent and inter-relational ways of thinking. \n“Global” interfluence includes motions and effects of the hydrosphere\, biosphere and atmosphere in relation to the sun and moon\, at least. “Biological” includes the various forms of organic life on earth – microbial and fungal as well as plant and animal\, and their interactions. “Human” includes the imagination\, creativity and activities of we humans\, and our influence on earth systems. So our fields of reference are broad\, but particular attention will be paid to environmental and organic circulatory systems\, including our own\, which help to unify the diversity and maintain continuity through continual change. \nSaturday morning will include hands-on\, interactive experiences of fluidity\, aiming to engage and educate our senses. \nOn Sunday morning\, participants will be invited to share their perspectives on interfluence in relation to their own areas of interest. \nThere will be space for dialogue among all participants\, and we look forward to meeting and hearing from the work of Vesna Forštnerič Lesjak\, Prof Meinhard Simon and Dr Philip Kilner. \nVesna has recently become joint leader of the Natural Science section at the Goetheanum. She is a pharmacist\, biodynamic farmer and Goethean researcher. Since 2013 she has run a production company for food supplements and cosmetics. She has helped to establish and manage an association for further education in natural sciences – “Sapientia”\, and the section for anthroposophical pharmacy and medicine in Slovenia. \nMeinhard is Professor of Aquatic Microbial Ecology at the University of Oldenburg in North-West Germany where he supervises researchers in fields such\, biological oceanography\, environmental microbes and microbiome ecology. He retired in July\, which will leave him freer to participate in events such as this. He is member of the board of the Natural Science Section for about 30 years \nPhilip has retired from his posts as Consultant and Reader in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance at Royal Brompton Hospital and Imperial College in London. Previously\, after studying flow with John Wilkes\, he researched flow in relation to reconstructive heart surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital\, London. His central interest is in our healthy living blood circulatory system and heart. \nOrganising Group \, Alex Murrell\, Philip Kilner and Simon Charter.   For the Natural Science Group of the Anthroposophical Society in Britain  Cost £125 including meals (concessions available please ask) \nBookings contact:   simon.charter@live.co.uk. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:An Introduction to Gardening the Biodynamic Way: 29th Oct 2pm - 5pm London
DESCRIPTION:With Dr Sue Peat and Douglas Davidson \nVenue:  Rudolf Steiner House\,\nTimes  2pm till 5pm \nAbout the workshop:\nBiodynamics is an organic method of cultivation\, arising out of Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual research. It works with the rhythms of the movements of the Sun\, Moon\, planets and stars\, to which the plants respond. \nThe workshop will cover the background of the biodynamic planting calendar and the biodynamic preparations\, including those used in composting. We will be paying special attention to the work of the worms. Participants will be invited to exchange seasonal tips\, ideas and experiences. \nFor the last hour\, we will stir the horn manure preparation (known as 500)\, so bring an empty screw top bottle if you would like to take some home. A 500ml bottle is enough for an average garden. The workshop is suitable for those new to biodynamics and for anyone who would like to give their garden\, window boxes or house plants a winter treat! \nAbout Sue Peat and Douglas Davidson \nDr. Sue Peat is an enthusiastic biodynamic gardener and long term student of Rudolf Steiner’s work. She is a medical consultant at a London Teaching Hospital\, with a specialist interest in\npain relief. \nDouglas Davidson is an enthusiastic BD allotment holder. \nAll welcome\, no need to book. £10 Full / £5 Concession\nFor updated news on this event please see:  www.meetup.com/rudolf-steiner-spiritual-science

SUMMARY:Communicating and Co-creating with the World of Nature Spirits - Stage II: 13th- 15th Oct 2023 with Susan Raven\, Wales
DESCRIPTION:A workshop with Susan Raven at The Urdd Centre\, Pentre Ifan\, Pembrokeshire.\nOn the weekend of the 13 th – 15th of October 2023 \n(This course is open to participants who have completed a Stage 1 course\, and to those who are following a regular spiritual practice in Nature) \n“Knowledge will take us up to a point\, imagination will take us everywhere. Creation sighs for a new creative human.”\nDorian Schmidt\, director of the Biodynamic Research Institute \nAs human beings\, we incarnate into a whole field of relationship and connectedness with the beings of Nature\, but most of us are unaware of this vibrant field. The nature spirits and elementals are part of the natural order of things and they are active within an eco-system parallel to the physical ecology we are all familiar with. At this time in our evolution\, it is vital that we repair our connection with their world and begin to create a field of harmonic inter-relationship and co-creativity. \n“Nature groans under the travail of waiting for us to participate. People used to live in the ‘Will of Nature’. We don’t. Our magic is… push the button and it happens and who cares! We pass the implications of this on to the Earth. We need imaginative forces to solve these problems\, and the schooling of the heart means we learn to think and work with living pictures.”\nDenis Klocek\, Director of Consciousness Studies\, Rudolf Steiner College\, USA. \nThere is an intelligence in everything around us; and with interest\, reverence and wonder we can access the pure wisdom of nature’s phenomena. When we learn to use the heart field to engage in a direct exchange of meaning\, without the intermediary of biased mental languaging\, we can allow the beings of nature to speak in their own terms. A collaboration between nature spirits and humans will bring about a co-creation of new ideas and visions for the future. \nAt this gathering in the beautiful environs of The Urdd Centre and the ancient Ty Canol woods in West Wales\, we will be exploring the methods used for seership and communication described by the philosopher\, scientist and seer\, Rudolf Steiner. We will be focusing on ways in which we can build a line of communication with the nature spirits\, in order that we may receive information and insight into their world. By working together with the elementals – which reside in earth\, water\, air and fire – we can become responsible co-creators at this critical time in our evolution. In this workshop\, Susan will be describing the activities of the nature spirits in the landscape and in the human being. We will be looking at ways in which we can effectively help these generous inhabitants of the supersensible realm for the ultimate benefit of us all. \nNature speaks and everything in Nature is communicable. The intelligent beings of Nature wish to communicate and co-create with an awake and aware humanity. So how do we contact them? How do we learn from them? How do we enter the dream time of their world? How do we interpret the sensations we experience with them? And how do we begin to co-create with them? \nDuring this course\, we will be exploring more of the exercises described by Rudolf Steiner aimed at awakening our dormant capacities of supersensible perception. \nCo-operation between ourselves and the nature spirits through methodologies like ‘Word Meditations’\, ‘Plant/phenomena Spirit Protocols’\, eurythmy and focused ceremony\, can take us beyond standard scientific research methods. Our task is to explore the landscape of the supersensible dimensions and to recognise (and respond with) the elemental vocabulary of colour\, vibration\, movement\, mood\, feeling-tones and symbology. \nFor further information about the course and to book a place\, please contact Susan at the following email address: raven@izun.co.uk \nwebsite: https://www.susanraven.com/ \nWorkshop fee: £130 early booking is recommended as places are limited. \nThis price includes delicious organic\, home-cooked meals by super-cook Vivienne Collins and also includes basic shared accommodation. To view the location and venue please click on the following link: \nhttps://www.urdd.cymru/en/residential-centres/pentre-ifan/ \nSusan Raven is an experienced workshop facilitator and a long-time student of Anthroposophy. She has worked with the methods and exercises described by Rudolf Steiner for seeing into the supersensible realms and has also trained with Dorian Schmidt\, director of the Biodynamic Research Institute. Susan is the author of the popular book ‘Nature Spirits: The Remembrance: A Guide to the Elemental Kingdom’\, featured in the Cygnus magazine\, Nexus\, Star & Furrow and Caduceus. \nReviews:\n“Your workshops have real substance!”\n“Inspiring\, fascinating\, it opened up the potential for doing something\nreally useful in the world.”\n“Susan is providing such a high level of reinforcement for all we have seen\, sensed and co-created with Spirit. I will be going over and over her writings in her book\, so that I can find as clear a way as possible into the\nkingdoms with whom we are sharing this life.”
