Grace Garden School is a new, exciting and innovative provision which will offer full time education to children from 9-16 years who have significant/complex social, emotional or educational difficulties. We are part of the Ruskin Mill Trust. For over 30 years, Ruskin Mill Trust has provided Specialist Independent Education to children and adults with complex needs including learning difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions and disabilities. Our provisions offer both day and residential placements and applications. Inspired by Aonghus Gordon using the insights of Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris, Ruskin Mill Trust works with hand, head, heart and place to provide students with the tools to transform material and in doing so transform themselves

Learning Assistant- Farm and Garden
Salary Range: £21,680.96 – £26,867.02  depending on experience and qualifications
40 hrs per week, 52 weeks per year

We are seeking to appoint a Learning Assistant, Farm and Garden at Grace Garden School to offer specific and
specialist educational support to the Land Tutor in the delivery of a therapeutic education programme to a number
of students using methods in line with the Trust’s Steiner principles. You will also be required to support the Land
Manager in the day-to-day running of the land, to support the animal husbandry and landscaping activities. You will organise and give guidance on appropriate work for students using biodynamic agriculture principles and
methodology.

The successful candidate will role model the interaction with nature, the land, the animals, the farm, students, staff
and parents. They will prepare the garden for use as an educational facility and manage projects in a market garden, in collaboration with the teachers and teaching assistants.
Some evening and weekend working would be required on rotation to support the Land Team with animal and
garden tasks. You will also be required to occasionally work at Grace Garden Lower School (Stoke Bishop) as required.

Main Duties:
• To assist the Land Tutor in planning sessions to differentiate for the range of students under the tutor’s
remit in order to progress each student educationally as well as to mitigate safeguarding risk.
• Work closely with Land Tutor and Land Manager in planning timetables around the care of animals so the
post holder is able to support the planning of lessons around this.
• To assist with the day-to-day running of the garden and farm
• To communicate consistently, openly and frequently with relevant parties in helping students to progress educationally towards their targets
