Planting calendars offer a fascinating window into cosmic forces including the stars that make up the 12 constellations in our zodiac. As we know, since time began, it’s been believed that, as well as the Moon, these also exert subtle influences what’s happening on Earth. In biodynamics, all these celestial cycles are seen to influence growth; and that their influence is also dependent on where the sun, earth and moon are at any given time in their rhythmical cycles.
For example, as the moon orbits the Earth every month, it passes a particular constellation, and the ancient element believed to be associated with it – earth, water, air and fire. To synergise with this, and make best use of these subtle forces when cultivating crops, biodynamics categorises plants into 4 corresponding groups depending on what part we eat : root (earth), leaf (water), flower(air/light), and fruit (fire). For example, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn relate to the earth element. Cultivating carrots on root days when the moon passes through any of these constellations enables us to tune into these subtle effects, and so help your carrots to have the best chance of realising their full growing potential. To complete the picture:
Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are the constellations associated with water and leaf formation
Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius are the constellations associated with air/light and flower formation
Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are the constellations associated with fire and fruit formation
It’s all quite straightforward, really. Whether you are fascinated by ancient wisdom, moon cycles, or modern astronomy, the Planting Calendar enables you to dip into cosmic realities and discover a whole new aspect to growing. Why not try it and see it for yourself. Please let us know, and we’ll collect feedback to share with members.
