Welcome to our new Citizen Science Research Initiative.  We currently have 2 research trials taking place, and you are welcome to join in with one or both.
Your participation makes a difference!
Join our NEW citizen Science Community and be  part of something big – https://mailchi.mp/biodynamic.org.uk/uf2802py1j

1. Does sowing seeds three days before the full moon or new moon have any effect on germination rates and other factors you may observe such seedling size / health?

Why get involved – Spring weather in the UK over the last 2 to 3 years has been somewhat challenging, with many gardeners reporting low seed germination rates (or no germination at all) and having to make repeated sowings alongside slow seedling growth.
We aim to gather extensive citizen-generated data to explore whether this could become a valuable, (and free tool)  empowering gardeners to thrive despite increasingly unpredictable weather conditions.   End of research trial period 31st Oct 2026

You can see the upcoming Full moon and New moon dates to the left and all you need to do is go back 3 days and sow your seeds in this run-up period. You can a;sp  find all the details of how to take part   download the PDF here.

You can watch Jess from the Biodynamic Gardening Club  sowing her seeds in the run-up to the new moon and then the full moon below

Have you completed your research trial?
You can submit your results via our online form here
It only takes a couple of minutes to fill in, and it also lets you upload any photos you may have taken.   You are welcome to do more than one trial and can submit a results form for each one you do

We are aiming to collate as much data as we can.  Many thanks for taking part and encouraging your green-fingered family, friends and school garden clubs to have a go

The Biodynamic Association has launched its second citizen science research project:
2. To explore whether a mix of biodynamic preparations called FG4 can help control fungal diseases in vineyards, rose gardens, and vegetable crops

Why get involvedCould this reduce the need to use fungicides/copper sprays or be more effective than natural methods of combatting fungal disease, a problem that all growers face.

We’re inviting biodynamic, organic and conventional growers throughout the UK (and beyond!) to take part.

The preparation is provided free of charge to participants who will spray part of their crop and report back to the BDA as part of our shared learning and practical research with real-world trials.

FG4 is a permitted input to organic and biodynamic systems, so trials will not threaten certification status. No derogation is required.
