This is an exciting opportunity to join Brantwood Garden School as an Assistant Outdoor Learning Manager. We require a committed assistant for the current Deputy Principal of the Outdoor Provision to help further develop and manage our established farm school based in Eyam, Derbyshire.  This is a significant role, suited to a person with experience of working with young people with complex needs. In addition, it is essential that the right candidate has some experience of working with animals and ideally has teaching and horticultural experience.

This is a working farm with a focus on using Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) to engage our students. We work on the land to inspire our students through seasonal activities using natural resources and the ‘seed to table’ approach. Helping to design, resource and teach such activities would be a key part of the role.  The successful candidate must be able to see the learning opportunities in the landscape and therefore contribute to the future development of the farm.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a full teaching qualification or equivalent experience (desirable)
  • Be experienced working with animals (essential) with teaching and horticultural experience (desirable).
  • Be trained in Biodynamic Agriculture or willing to attend training and work towards a qualification
  • Have proven ability to lead, manage sensitive issues, and maintain confidentiality
  • Hold a full driving licence (essential)

The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching and hold a teaching qualification. However, we would still welcome applications from individuals who have not yet achieved this but are willing to train and learn.

Working at Ruskin Mill Trust is incredibly rewarding; we offer competitive salaries and holiday allowances, an auto-enrolment pension scheme with a salary sacrifice option, a health cash plan and employee assistance programme via Medicash.

In addition, staff receive valuable training opportunities including an in-depth interactive induction to enable our new team members to experience our Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) curriculum and opportunities for further training and academic research including our own MSc in Practical Skills Therapeutic Education.
